Food Trend: Making Doughnuts

Baked Buttermilk Doughnuts  

2 cups cake flour

3/4 sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp salt

3/4 cup buttermilk  

2 eggs

2 Tbsp butter, melted  

1 tsp vanilla

 

Glaze

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla or almond extract  

3 Tbsp water

 

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.  Grease and flour doughnut pans.  In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt.  Add buttermilk, eggs, butter, and vanilla and mix until combined.  Fill each doughnut pot on the pan about 1/2 full.  Bake 10-12 minutes until the doughnut springs back when touched.  Cool 5 minutes.  While doughnuts are cooling make glaze.  Dip each doughnut into glaze and sit on a cooling rack until glaze is slightly harden.  Enjoy!!
